North Richmond Community Health (NRCH) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing accessible and culturally responsive healthcare services. Working with refugees, asylum seekers, newly-arrived immigrants and people of different cultural, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds, the organisation offers primary healthcare, dentistry, harm reduction initiatives and community support. Prior to integrating with Checkmate, NRCH’s People & Culture team managed hiring compliance through a fragmented process. Hiring managers conducted reference checks manually over the phone, while police checks, right-to-work verifications and Working with Children checks were handled separately. This often led to the recruitment team dealing with inefficiencies and delays.

With the help of Checkmate, NRCH were able to simplify their compliance requirements and improve efficiency. The platform’s automation allowed the team to streamline their reference checks, police checks, right-to-work verification and Working with Children checks by initiating and reviewing them all from one centralised system. Checkmate was also able to integrate seamlessly with NRCH’s current applicant tracking system, Teamtailor, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted transition between hiring stages.
“Once we move someone into the reference check stage, I get a notification to initiate Checkmate. I can then send candidates directly to the Checkmate portal and add the necessary checks.”
Checkmate was able to seamlessly integrate into NRCH’s existing applicant tracking system, Teamtailor. This helped to significantly improve the organisation’s hiring workflow and provided several enhanced features and efficiencies.
Once a candidate reaches the reference check stage in Teamtailor, a notification prompts the not-for-profit’s team to initiate Checkmate’s screening process, reducing the manual effort needed to continually check up on the process.
Candidates now receive a seamless and professional recruitment journey, with all their compliance checks housed within an easy-to-use digital process.
The integration removed the need for manual data entry, saving NRCH valuable time and reducing the risk of human errors.
The organisation's recruitment team can now monitor the status of background checks directly from Teamtailor, ensuring full transparency and allowing for faster decision-making.
